Frequently asked questions

Why does Lumi show “No UV Data” or a dash instead of a number?

This means Lumi could not read a UV reading for your location. The most common causes:

  • Location permission is off. Tap the banner on the Home screen, or go to Settings app → Lumi → Location and set it to “While Using the App.”
  • No internet connection. Lumi fetches live data from Apple Weather and needs a connection to do so.
  • Apple Weather has no data for your exact spot (rare, usually resolves within a few minutes).

Lumi never shows a UV level it isn’t sure about — if the reading is missing, the app tells you it’s missing rather than guessing.

How does the reapply timer work?

When you tap I Applied Sunscreen, Lumi starts a countdown based on your skin profile: about 90 minutes for Fair, 120 for Medium, and 150 for Dark. You can fine-tune the exact interval in Settings → Protection.

When the timer runs out, Lumi sends a single reminder notification. It does not repeat or nag — you’ll get exactly one notification per application.

I'm not getting reminder notifications.

Check the following, in order:

  1. Open Settings app → Notifications → Lumi and make sure “Allow Notifications” is on.
  2. Make sure Focus modes (Do Not Disturb, Sleep, Work) aren’t silencing the Lumi app.
  3. Confirm you tapped I Applied Sunscreen after applying — the timer only starts from that tap, not automatically.
  4. If you use Smart UV Alerts or the Daily Morning Briefing (Lumi Pro features), confirm both are toggled on in Settings.
How do I change my skin type?

Go to Settings → Skin Profile and select Fair, Medium, or Dark. This updates your default reapply interval immediately and personalises the wording of your reminders.

What's included in Lumi Pro, and how do I subscribe?

Lumi is free to download and use. Lumi Pro is an optional subscription (weekly, monthly, or yearly) that unlocks:

  • Smart high-UV alerts
  • The daily morning UV briefing
  • Custom reminder intervals

You can subscribe from the card at the top of the Settings tab. Pricing is shown before you confirm the purchase and may vary by country.

How do I cancel or manage my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed and managed entirely through your Apple Account — we do not have access to your payment details and cannot cancel a subscription on your behalf.

Two ways to manage it:

  1. In Lumi, open Settings and tap the Lumi Pro row (only visible once you’re subscribed) to open subscription management.
  2. Or go to Settings app → [your name] → Subscriptions on your device.

Cancelling stops future renewals; your Pro features remain active until the end of the period you already paid for.

I paid for Lumi Pro but it's not unlocked. What do I do?

This is usually fixed by restoring your purchase:

  1. Open the Lumi Pro paywall (tap the upgrade card in Settings).
  2. Tap Restore Purchases.

If that doesn’t resolve it, email us with the Apple Account email you subscribed with (not your Lumi data, since Lumi doesn’t use email accounts) and the approximate date of purchase, and we’ll look into it.

Does Lumi work outside my home country?

Yes. UV data is fetched live for wherever your device is, anywhere in the world, as long as you have an internet connection and location permission enabled.

What languages does Lumi support?

Lumi is fully localised in English, Turkish, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Thai. The app follows your device’s system language automatically — there is no in-app language switch.

Is my sunscreen application history backed up anywhere?

No. Your streaks, weekly charts, and application history are stored only on your device and are not uploaded to our servers. If you delete Lumi or switch to a new device, this history does not carry over.

How do I delete my account and data?

Uninstalling Lumi immediately deletes your on-device history (streaks, charts, application log) and stops all data collection from your device.

To also delete the record we hold on our servers (your device identifier, notification settings, and subscription status), email buraksenturktr@icloud.com and we’ll erase it. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Is Lumi a medical product? Can I rely on it instead of sunscreen?

No. Lumi is a general wellness tool, not a medical device, and its UV readings and timers are general guidance rather than personalised medical advice. Always follow the instructions on your sunscreen product and consult a healthcare professional about your skin. See the Terms of Use for the full notice.
